The recent trend for spending your hard earned holiday time at home or somewhere in Britain , has given a much needed boost to small business.
According to a recent report published by Business Link, almost 80% of all businesses have experienced an uplift in turnover since the ‘staycation’ trend began, with 50% reporting an increase in profits.
Caroline Davis, founder of ‘The Brasserie’ in Dorset comments; “ Historically, business boomed in the summer, then – with the rise of low cost airlines and accommodation – things slowed down, now this season families who would have been jetting off to far flung destinations are choosing to stay in Britain.”
According to Mary Lane, Professor of Business and Marketing at the University of Central England, the ‘staycation’ symbolizes a shift in consumer behaviour. She comments;” People are no longer concerned by other peoples perception of their consumer choices. The fact that small businesses have been able to profit from this cultural shift is a testament to their ability to respond swiftly to an ever evolving market.”
