In the past companies use the seal to certify official documents such as share certificates and company charges. Whilst company seals are no longer a mandatory company instrument, there use is still widespread and is still perceived as a strong authority in signifying a genuine document.

The company directors and or secretaries would normally sign the embossed document as witnesses to the transaction.
