Give your business a workout
We all know the promises we make at the start of the year to get in shape, feel fitter and be stronger, but do you think about your business in the same way? Forget signing up to the gym, give your business a workout instead and get a head-start to 2019. Ready, set, go!
Train up
You’ll have areas of expertise but you should always make an effort to upskill in other areas of your business too. It’s easier than you think to get clued up – just dedicate 10 minutes of your time a day. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve if you take time every day to focus.
Trim the fat
The new year is the perfect time to put your business on a diet. Get rid of anything unnecessary and cut out risks that may not be paying off as well as you’d hoped.
Perfect your performance
Don’t be scared to try something new or improve on what you’re already doing. Remember, even the most experienced people can get it wrong sometimes, but as they say, practice makes perfect. Try, try and try again!
Get kitted up
You’ll need the right equipment when taking up a new sport, and your business is no different. It’s important to properly invest in what you need. For example – if you require a certain piece of software but question the cost, take into account what could be gained by investing before completely writing it off.
Make time
Just like scheduling a workout, you need to allocate time for your business. Keep a calendar nearby or create your own as it’s important to visually see tasks and events coming up. At MadeSimple we usually plan ahead at least two months in advance, which means we can start on tasks earlier and always be ahead of time.
Set targets
Just like tracking your fitness goals, it’s important to set targets and have an end goal in mind. Work towards the proposed outcome and keep your targets realistic, otherwise you’ll be cruising along without any real long-term ambitions in sight.
Work in intervals
It’s common knowledge that it’s more productive to work in quick bursts rather than for long periods of time. Productivity isn’t determined by how long you work for, but rather the quality of work produced.
Review
Take stock of what you have achieved and consider what went well and what could be improved. Just like you would after a gym session, plan what you’ll be doing next – the tasks you complete should help you achieve your overall goal.
Take time every day to strengthen the core
You may drink more fluids, have supplements and increase intake of protein to replace anything lost or improve your overall productivity when exercising. Well your business needs nourishment and care to flourish in the same way. Treat your company well by always keeping its core values and interests at heart.
Get in the zone
If you struggle to focus, create an environment in which you’re most productive. If you focus when you have motivating music on in the background, turn up the radio. If you thrive in non-stuffy environments, look into getting out the office. It’s all about finding what works for you.
Adjust your speed
In an ever-increasingly technological world, it’s easy to always be engaged in work, but it’s important to know when to take time for yourself. If you keep a calendar (as mentioned above) you will know when deadlines need to be met – however, you should also schedule in leisure time.
What are you waiting for? Get into action and give your business a full workout to start the year right. Trust us, you won’t regret it!
