Assistance in opening a bank account with a leading UK bank

All UK Limited companies require a UK bank account to start trading.

With our International banking package our Bank Account Opening Team will immediately start the process of securing the right UK bank account for your business. They will arrange a UK bank account introduction and attend the initial face-to-face meeting with you, as well as help you complete the relevant application forms.

Without a UK bank account, it is unlikely that the UK VAT office will issue you with a VAT number. You do not need a UK residential address for opening a UK bank account for your company, however you will need to bring your ID documents with you to attend the bank meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set up a UK limited company if I live outside of the UK and if I’m not a UK national?

Yes and yes, just as long as you are 16 or over and not currently declared bankrupt. Your company however, will require a UK Registered Office address.

Is there a renewal fee?

Yes, if you wish to continue to use our Registered Office and Service Address and also want us to prepare and file your Confirmation Statement, the International packages have an (annual) renewal fee of £99.99 plus VAT. View what’s in each package here.

Please note the Mail Forwarding service is not included as part of this renewal and can be renewed separately for £99.99 per year. This service is provided by our sister company, Virtual Office MadeSimple, and you will receive an email before the service expires requesting you to renew.

Do I need to come to the UK to open the bank account?

In most cases, there is a requirement for the director/shareholders to come and meet the bank manager in person in the UK (London). If you are unable to travel to the UK in the immediate future, our banking partners will be able to discuss your requirements with you.

Are there any requirements to open a bank account as a non-UK resident?

Yes, the following terms and conditions apply:

  • You must have a legitimate business carrying out commercial/trading activity and must not be a vehicle for tax saving
  • You must have a UK customer or supplier or have full intentions of entering UK market with marketing your products or services in the UK
  • Director/s and beneficial owners will need to travel to the UK to meet Premier UK Business LLP and the bank manager before the account can be opened.
  • You will need to bring photo ID and proof of your local residential address with them (valid passport or driving licence) and proof of your current home address (such as a recent utility bill or bank/credit card statement which is less than three months old, or a council tax bill) for the bank meeting.
  • Your business must not be within the Financial Services sector.
  • If you are outside the EU, you may need to provide a business visa.

Can I get a UK bank account on my own?

Strict money laundering regulations, and increasing identity fraud, have made UK banks very cautious about who they allow to open a British bank account. Even if you feel you meet the criteria, there is a real risk you may still be declined. If you are declined, many UK banks will not allow you to reapply for 6 months. Our Bank Account Opening Team have built up strong personal relationships with the leading UK banks in the City of London. This helps us speed up the process and give you the best possible chance of securing a UK bank account.

What is the Registered Office?

This is the official address for your company and where official government mail from Companies House and HMRC will be sent. Your company does not need to be based at or trade from this address, the only requirement is that any official mail that is delivered onto the address is then forwarded onto the company director/s.

What if I do not have an address that I can use for the Registered Office?

The international packages include our Registered Office Service; this means that you can use our London address as your company’s Registered Office and any Companies House or HMRC mail that we receive will be securely scanned and emailed to you.

What is a Service Address?

When a company is incorporated, a director must include their residential address and a service address. The service address will be on the public record at Companies House; the residential address will be protected information and is not available to the public (although it is available to some public authorities). Shareholders and secretaries only need to supply one address - a service address.

With our international packages, you get the use of our N1 address as your service address for one year. We’ll securely scan and email any official government mail addressed to the company director/s from governing bodies such as HMRC, Companies House etc.

What if non HMRC / Companies House mail is sent to the Registered Office?

The International packages also include our Mail Forwarding Service. This means that we will forward on any other business mail that we receive for you or your company, wherever you are in the World, via Royal Mail. The cost of forwarding your mail will be taken from a £20 postage deposit which is included in the initial package price. When this runs out we will ask you to top it up.

What if I don’t want to use the Registered Office or Mail Forwarding Service?

That’s absolutely fine – there is no obligation to use these services. Please note that price of the package will remain the same though.

Does a Limited company have any filing obligations?

Yes, a limited company must file a Confirmation Statement and annual accounts on a yearly basis. Annual accounts deal with company finances. If at the time of filing annual accounts your company has never traded, we do offer a dormant company accounts service. If your company has traded, we recommend speaking to an accountant. Our tax and banking partners also offer online accountancy services and can discuss your requirements.

How much do the online accountancy services cost?

These services are offered by our tax and banking partners and are not included in the price of the International packages. After purchasing a package, our tax and banking team can discuss your requirements and provide a tailored service for your needs, therefore the cost will be dependent on the services you choose to take up. What is a Confirmation Statement?

A Confirmation Statement (previously known as an Annual Return) is a snapshot of general information about a company's directors, secretary (where one has been appointed), registered office address, shareholders and share capital. Every company must file a Confirmation Statement to Companies House at least once every 12 months. Our International package includes the preparation and filing of your first Confirmation Statement.
